Zakir Hussain was a legendary Indian tabla virtuoso widely regarded as one of the greatest percussionists in the world, known for both his mastery of Hindustani classical music and his genre-defying collaborations, most notably with the fusion group Shakti alongside John McLaughlin. He founded his own label, Moment Records, in 1992, and also released music through ECM Records, while earning recognition from institutions such as the NEA, Kyoto Prize, and Percussive Arts Society.
