The Chieftains
The Chieftains are a traditional Irish folk band formed in Dublin in 1962 by Paddy Moloney, known for their instrumental sound centered on uilleann pipes and other traditional instruments. They became globally recognized cultural ambassadors for Irish music, winning six Grammy Awards and an Oscar, and collaborating with artists like the Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Sting, Sinead O'Connor, Paul McCartney, Madonna, and Luciano Pavarotti. Their foundational label relationship was with Claddagh Records, which Moloney managed for seven years starting in 1968, before later releases on larger labels like Fantasy Records/Concord Music Group.
