Reverend Gary Davis (1896–1972) was a blind American blues and gospel singer and virtuoso finger-style guitarist, also skilled on banjo and harmonica, born in Laurens County, South Carolina. An ordained minister, he worked as a street musician notably in Durham, North Carolina, before becoming a highly influential mentor to folk and blues guitarists in New York until his death in Hammonton, New Jersey in 1972.
